Chuck and Patti Griffith formed Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo Company in March, 2001 with David Wisener as the General Manager. Our objective was to develop a breeding program to produce PBR and CBR caliber bucking bulls and to be known for our honesty and integrity as a business partner and well as a breeder. Additionally, Patti runs a breeding program for AQHA registered quarter horses for 4-H, ranch, and pleasure riding.

One hundred percent of our cattle are ABBI registered and have been purchased or bred entirely from proven bucking bull bloodlines, we raise no other cattle. We have 120 plus females including own daughters of CP47, Houdini, Rooster, Whitewater Skoal, Skat Kat, Kit Kat, Happy Hopper, Mobetta, and #100 Superbull plus Zorro and Downdraft.

In 2002, we were very active with our young bulls in Bucker’s Inc./Rodeo Stock Registry Futurities (2 year-olds) and Derbies (3 year-olds). Zorro (bred by Kevin Loudamy and sired by DooDad and a Panhandle Slim daughter) was the Reserve Grand Champion at the 2002 Gold Standard Futurity held in Stephenville, Texas. Additionally, Surprise (another Panhandle Slim grandson) finished in 5th place out of this extremely competitive 140-bull field.

In the 2002 World Derby held concurrently with the Futurity, Wild Bill (Whitewater Skoal son) tied for 5th and Alioop (Spook grandson) finished in 8th place. Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo was the only stock contractor to have two bulls finish in the Top 10 in both Stephenville events.

In February, 2002, after analyzing the success of the Plummer bloodlines industry wide, we made the strategic decision to acquire all of the Wyche’s remaining straws of CP47 semen. CP47 (Grandpa Charlie) sired #161 White Sports Coat and #147 Spitfire. White Sports Coat sired Houdini, Panhandle Slim, Rooster, and Katydid. CP47 has the longest DNA proven bloodline in the Rodeo Stock Registry.

In addition to buying the CP47 semen from the Wyche’s, we also purchased all of their remaining 2001 and 2002 CP47 daughters. Then in 2003, we started our CP47 artificial insemination program and now have 30 CP47 daughters. This is the industry’s largest set of original Plummer CP47 Foundation cows. This set of CP47 cows can then continue to be Plummer line-bred or outcrossed to other top bloodlines.

In 2004, Zorro won 4th place at the 1st annual American Bucking Bull, Inc. (formerly RSR) Classic Finals held in Las Vegas. This brought Zorro’s futurity system winnings to over $48,000 and has been a PBR Finals bulls in 2004, 2005, and 2006. He was also a CBR Finals bull in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Zorro is also proving to be a prolific producer as well. At two CBR events in 2007 (Lufkin and Ft. Worth), Zorro was in the short round and 4 of his sons (Derringer, Maverick, Bounty Hunter, and LZ (now owned by Tino Martinez) were in the long round and all had excellent trips. As of August 2007, Derringer has a solid lead in the National Bucking Bull Assoc (NBBA) 4 year old division and Maverick is 2 points out of first place in the 3 year old division.

We would also like to publicly thank the gang at the Kevin Loudamy (K&K Cattle Co), Larry Wyche’s (Diamond L Ranch), Ronnie and Brady Roach (Rafter 7r), and Steve and Julie Ravenscroft (Ravenscroft Bucking Bulls). They have all been more than generous in sharing their time, thoughts, and experiences over the years which has helped us tremendously.

We always welcome visits, phone calls, and emails.
